So one of our dogs, Mollie, managed to get pink-eye. It was causing her some distress, so we took her to the vet, and now we’re putting in eye-drops twice a day. She’s actually being pretty good about it. But it was looking pretty horrible for awhile.
This morning, Marie appeared from her room, looking rather distressed, and informed us that there was a bird in her room. We secured the dogs (imaging the fun if they had discovered the bird and decided to chase it around the house) and went in after it. Turned out to be a bat. I chased it around the living room with a broom for awhile, and eventually it flew out the front door.
I told Ann-Marie about the fact that my sister TJ had been bitten by a bat and had to undergo the entire rabies series of shots; turned out she was not all that amused by the thought.
Fortunately, no one got bitten. Turns out it is fairly easy to hit a bat with a broom, even with 9 foot ceilings.
On with the show, I guess.

IN WINSLOW, Saturday at 4:43 p.m., a caller from Halifax Street reported a bear in a tree behind her house. It turned out to be a big, fat cat in the tree, according to the report.
So there you go. Our cat Dermot (sp) is fat, but he is not often mistaken for a bear. But I doubt he could climb a tree, either.
I’ve added “Day by Day,” an online comic that Ann-Marie and I like to our homepage (and also to this blog, just to see if I could). Other than that, I’m struggling with trying to make an Olympus P-11 photo printer talk to our Linux-based laptop. It’s not working and I’m cranky about it. Gutenprint won’t install, and the ‘community’ is not being very helpful. I think I’m going to have to spend the weekend digging in my office for my old Windows XP disks to install on my laptop just so I can print. This pretty much sucks.
I don’t know how well I’ll manage to keep this blog up, but I’m going to give it an honest try. I think I’ll try to do it in more of a journal style - like ‘Dear Diary’. Probably won’t make it very interesting for anyone, but you never know. Either that, or I’ll rant about how much I hate my job. Whichever.
